Maya Brunch @ The Royal Meridian
Mexican on the Beach, or even by the pool. Get there early and enjoy the pools, it’s always a good way to wind down and get ready for the feast to come, even have a sneaky pre-dinner beer. It isn’t a bad idea to loosen up the palate, as you slow down on the first day of the all too short weekend at the end of the Dubai working week, which as you know starts again promptly on Sunday morning, that’s a thought you can let go as you lay back in the sun.
The brunch starts at one p.m. and the dress code is beach casual. And while they don’t turn away flip flops and T shirts, you’ll feel better in loafers and make the effort, put on a linen shirt. It’s all table service and usually I find it’s pretty good, but think they were a bit short staffed this time. If you growl a bit they soon buck their ideas up. The relaxing pace of Mexican beach life is for the customers, not the staff, a gentle reminder that you drink faster than the average bear and need attention is sufficient I found.
The menu has some new additions and they are good. The new salady thingy looked pretty and tasted good, and was dare I say probably very healthy. But don’t panic, you still get to gorge on fajitas at the end on the mains, and the little caribbean lobsters tails will keep coming as fast as you can keep eating them. Desert has a new twist and is very good, if you’ve room. Only downside today was the tequila shots are now off the beverage package. Seemed an extremely un-sporting and bad idea when i was there in full brunch mode, but I was somehow glad of it the next day.
